Students participate in mock election

On April 25th, 8th graders embarked on a hands-on adventure in local government with a trip to Hillsboro's City Hall. Witnessing the city's inner workings firsthand allowed students to grasp how decisions are made, budgets are allocated, and laws are enforced. This demystification of government processes empowers students, fostering a sense of agency and encouraging future engagement in the community. They participated in a mock election, where 8th-grader Oliver Sosinsky secured the coveted title of Deputy Mayor for the Day.

This experience at City Hall sent a powerful message to Hillsboro students: their voices matter. The day instilled a sense of ownership and responsibility for their community, and showcased the importance of being an informed citizen.
