In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge, in cooperation with the National Fire Prevention Association (est. 1922), proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance and selected the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. Fire Prevention Week stands as the longest-running public health observance in our country.
During the week of October 9th, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire.
Hillsboro firefighters visited PreK and Kindergarten classes to provide lifesaving public education and answer any questions students had. At the end of the visit, students were able to inspect different fire trucks and test out the fire hose.
