Hillsboro Middle School's 7th Grade Quiz Bowl team traveled to Necedah on Tuesday, April 23rd, to compete in the regional tournament. Students were tested on a range of subjects, including current events, geography, science, math, English, and sports.
The competition was tough, but the Hillsboro team represented the district well. This year marks the district's second year back in the bowl, which runs through the Mississippi Valley Gifted & Talented program. The event is highly competitive, attracting so many schools that organizers have to limit participation to 12 teams.
Students take a qualifying test to earn a spot on the Quiz Bowl team, and coaching keeps them sharp with intermittent quizzes throughout the season. The regional tournament itself consists of individual, team, and speed round quizzes, testing the students' knowledge and teamwork under pressure.
