In the 2025-2026 school year, Hillsboro High School students will transition from a block (90-minute classes) scheduling system to a 9-period day featuring 45-minute classes.
This decision to implement a 9-period day at the high school was based on ongoing academic review by staff and district administration.
High School Principal Chris Koopman provided an overview of some of the most immediate and tangible benefits, including students' ability to connect with their teachers daily, increased student focus and academic rigor, less hallway traffic, higher levels of instructional time per period, and higher contact rates during the spring sports seasons. The 9-period schedule also allows for scheduling continuity between the middle and high school levels.
The district is excited to offer these benefits to high school students and continue our mission of providing all students with optimal opportunities to Learn, Achieve, and Succeed.
