Le Ann Fisher

“I began my career in 1993 after I graduated from UW Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education and Physical Education. I worked in numerous districts as a substitute teacher before I began my career in Hillsboro in 1996."

Over the course of her career, Le Ann Fisher has established herself as a prominent educator in the district, and currently serves as one of two 5th-grade teachers in the elementary.

"I grew up near Mt. Tabor, Wisconsin, on a dairy farm about ten miles from our school. I’m a Hillsboro alumna. When we moved back to my hometown, my husband and I also started a business called Pleasant Valley Log Cabins, which we still own today.” Le Ann had always enjoyed working with children, and at the Hillsboro Elementary School, she turned that passion into her career. “I love seeing my students’ faces when a concept clicks, and they learn something new.”

During her time as a student at Hillsboro, LeAnn excelled in school and on the track. Her school record for the 300 hurdles still stands. These days, when she’s not in the classroom teaching, Mrs. Fisher takes time to ground herself in nature. “I love to walk and hike. The natural world holds a lot of wisdom, and I find a lot of peace in the quiet.”

Le Ann says she plans to retire in the next five years. At that time, she hopes to be able to travel more with her husband, Joe, and spend time visiting her children. “My daughter, Riley, lives in Altoona, WI, and my son, Skyler, lives in Oshkosh. I look forward to being able to spend more time with them.” Mrs. Fisher dreams of continuing adventures abroad, “I recently traveled to the Czech Republic with my husband to find my roots. My great-great-grandparents (Sebranek) grew up in a little village there. I’ve had some amazing experiences traveling in Greece, England, Scotland, and Panama City - we were able to travel down the Panama Canal.”

Elementary Principal Lisa Gerke explains, “Mrs. Fisher brings learning to life with her boundless love for science and her unmistakable kindness and leadership. Each year, students eagerly look forward to hatching chicks in her classroom, a hands-on tradition that sparks curiosity and wonder. Mrs. Fisher is also known for sharing cuttings from her spider plant with her students, and joining in on fifth grade fun, such as skating alongside her students during the rollerskating unit. Mrs. Fisher is committed to making learning enjoyable and memorable!”

Le Ann says she has always felt that Hillsboro School District was special. “We have the small-town atmosphere, but with robust academic standards and offerings of a much larger district. Every employee in our district is dedicated to giving 100% to the students of this community. So many people are part of our students’ successes, and it means many are going above and beyond.” When asked what she would most like the community to know about her, Mrs. Fisher answered simply, “I hope the people of this community know how much I’ve truly cared for all the children I’ve taught. I’ve always wanted the very best for my students.”
