High school civics students recently participated in a fishbowl discussion questioning if there is ever a time when individual rights should be limited. As part of Ms. Bamesberger’s unit on informed citizenship, students practiced civil discourse by respectfully sharing perspectives, actively listening, and supporting their perspectives with evidence.
This activity helps students strengthen their critical thinking and communication skills while exploring the themes of individual freedom and the common good, essential concepts in civic engagement.
A civics education helps students find their own voices and teaches them how to use them effectively. These skills are essential in preparing the next generation to be knowledgeable and active leaders.
