Mother poses with children and their project

Last Wednesday, elementary families and students enjoyed Literacy Night from 4:00-6:00 PM.

The annual event is one way the elementary school engages students in a love of reading, exploration of language and ideas, and models reading as a way to build community. A key focus of the evening is to involve parents and guardians in their children's literacy journey. The elementary hosts a light supper in the cafeteria, giveaways, and a book fair.

Local author Robin Haugh inspired children and families through a discussion of her books and writing process.

The night also provided parents with valuable insights into how their children interact with learning materials at school.

Literacy Night emphasizes the social aspects of reading, demonstrating how it bridges gaps between diverse people and ideas, and strengthens the bonds between district families and our school.
