The First Grade classes were visited by an Elf who left a map of the Elementary School and a set of clues!
The object was to find Something Cool. It is a good thing that these #HSDGoTigers learned how to read maps to locate things and places by using map keys! They also learned how to navigate using directional words such as: North, South, East, and West (Never Eat Soggy Waffles). Way to go Tigers!

Check out these awesome vector portraits made by the very talented graphics design students! #HSDGoTigers

These #HSDGoTigers had some very special visitors last week!

Last month, the computer science class learned about some of the many ways computer science is currently being used in the military.
SSG Robert Lee Shumaker II SSG and SSG Brent Mciver provided a presentation on CS technology in the military and gave a demonstration of the Packbot. This robot is a multi-mission tactical mobile robot developed and manufactured by iRobot. It is designed for use by war fighters and first responders to carry out dangerous missions in high-threat battlefield scenarios.
The robot is controlled by a mechanism very similar to controllers used for gaming. These controllers, combined with cameras mounted on the robot, allow soldiers to drive the robot in remote locations. After the demonstration, students were able to practice driving this robot using the controller and mounted cameras! #HSDGoTigers

Based on the quality of their work, several Hillsboro creative writing students were invited to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point High School Writers' Workshop!
They were honored with lunch, had the opportunity to attend workshops led by college professors, and participated in an open mic. The keynote speaker was author Kim Suhr, who also led a workshop and even took time to sign copies of her book for a couple of our students! #HSDGoTigers #TigerProud

So much December fun in this classroom!
These #HSDGoTigers had a blast playing in their gingerbread house, decorating their own trees, and rolling out confetti Playdoh cookies!
